I’ve been producing art my whole life. When I was a little girl, I loved to draw and color. By age five, I had picked up how to crochet from my Great Grandma, Lola. In high school, I took a stab at painting and have been doing it since, but by no means stopped there. I have taken courses in Photography, Ceramics, Printmaking, Design, Metalwork, Woodworking, and probably something else I’m forgetting, there’s so much!
Of course, being a bit pragmatic in my younger years, I opted to also study Marketing, along with my Fine Art Degree. Upon graduation, I moved from my home state of Iowa to San Francisco, where I proceeded to live a double life: working in Marketing by day and creating in my studio on nights and weekends. Mostly working in painting and mixed media, I worked in bright, pop themes, covering subject matter like Sushi and Shih Tzus, Glitter Girls, and Pin Up abstracts.
After 8 lovely years living in the Mission, I knew it was time for a quieter pace of my life. I made a smart move and chose Seattle, the Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest. While in Seattle, I put more attention toward the craft arts and experimented in jewelry making using resin in molds. I also developed a new obsession with plants and indoor gardening, mostly with succulents and air plants. One thing led to another, and the next thing you know, I’m making mixed media air plant displays and driftwood sculptures. Currently, I’m producing them using vintage wallpaper and am stoked on what I’m working on.
Concurrently, my professional interests have also migrated away from the fast pace of Digital Marketing, to the much more creative and fun pace of Small Business Social Media. I’m currently accepting contract positions to do Social Media Content Creation and Management. Check out my work here: http://www.instagram.com/retrofithomeseattle/
That said, my interests are always evolving, and sometimes returning to my tried and true painting medium, or even crochet…or probably stuff I haven’t even discovered yet!
